about 6th And detroit
6th And Detroit, founded by Michelle Qazi, is a thoughtfully curated home décor store that showcases a mix of unique styles from the 50s through the 80s. Originally started as an Etsy shop, Michelle uses social media to drive sales in a flash-sale like format which quickly made it a shopping destination for designers and vintage décor enthusiasts. 6th And Detroit opened its first brick and mortar in April 2016 in the East Village Arts District of Long Beach, CA. The store showcases visually appealing vignettes to provide shoppers design inspiration in every corner. www.6thandDetroit.com
When Michelle Qazi moved into her first apartment in Los Angeles, she discovered her love for decorating and built an appreciation of vintage furnishings. Fresh out of college and a small budget to work with, Michelle scoured flea markets, estate sales and vintage stores to furnish her apartment. Finding out she had a keen eye for design and quality, she turned this passion into a business.
In April 2015, Michelle launched her online Etsy store, 6th And Detroit. Knowing the power of social media, Michelle used Instagram to help drive sales and present her styling and photography skills. She curates each post as if she’s designing a corner of a home. Her online store and social sites quickly grew to be a shopping and inspiration destination. A year later, Michelle fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning a shop and opened 6th And Detroit’s doors in Downtown Long Beach, CA. Similar to her social posts, the store showcases visually appealing vignettes so shoppers can find design inspiration and hand picked unique items.
She has expanded her services into rentals, Airbnb consulting, interior design and selling from Seattle online. Both her homes, in Long Beach and Seattle, are a reflection of the brand and have been featured in Design Sponge, The Jungalow and Houzz. She has partnered with Dunn Edwards to help launch 2018’s Color of the Year, as well as, produce her first 6th And Detroit branded item - a custom scented candle with Mr. B’s Necessities.
Michelle Qazi is a mother of two, a self-taught interior designer with a passion for all things old and beautiful. Originally from Laguna Niguel, CA, Michelle earned her undergraduate degree in Advertising from California State University, Fullerton. After living in Long Beach for 10 years, she now currently resides in Seattle to explore expanding the brand and frequently visits the Long Beach storefront and her team.
